Course content:
- Discussion of grief models that support understanding of potential impacts on wellbeing grief and loss experienced by children and young people.
- Focus on how children’s understanding of loss, its expression and communication, is determined by age, stage and capacity
- Consider children and young people’s evolving understanding of loss as their development changes over time
- Interactive discussion to consider specific grief vulnerabilities of children and young people in transition
- Gain confidence in the language of compassion and how we communicate with children and young people across the age spectrum about death, dying, loss and grief.
- Increase confidence in discussing children and young peoples’ grief needs with grieving parents and carers
- Highlight specific vulnerabilities such as educational outcomes of bereaved children and young people
- Consider the unique experience of pandemic related loss experienced in childhood
- Resource staff through highlighting creative activities that help to engage grieving children and young people
- Develop greater awareness of self-care and wellbeing considerations when working with bereaved children and young people
