Under Pressure

Under Pressure training supports practitioners to have open discussions about some of the challenges and pressures young people may be facing around relationships and gender roles.

Multiple research projects including that carried out by Zero Tolerance show that young people feel pressured to conform to rigid gender roles. Young people also identified that they wanted better, more comprehensive sex education. Over the last decade research findings have remained consistent, with many academics and organisations calling for more action to address the pressures in relation to gender roles.

This short session provides information about the pressures young people face and invites practitioners to reflect on the implications this may have for their practice.

Areas of focus include the pressure of ‘surveillance culture’, pressures to be a man or woman in a certain way, pressure of social demands, and pressure of porn consumption.
