Disclosure Scotland will implement the Disclosure Scotland Act 2020 from the 1st of April 2025. A key change that this will bring will be to give more responsibility to applicants when it comes to sharing disclosure information with organisations who seek to offer them opportunity for employment, education, training, or volunteering. It also will provide a process where an applicant can ask Disclosure Scotland to review certain convictions and childhood information before it is disclosed.
This webinar will explore how the disclosure system deals with childhood convictions. It will discuss the above changes and consider the implications of these for practitioners supporting children and young people who have been in conflict with the law. There will also be practical tips about identifying when certain offences might result in long-term disclosure consequences, and guidance on how best to support children and young people to understand, and where appropriate, challenge, what can be disclosed.
Speakers will include; Claire Lightowler (Clan Childlaw), Stewart Rafferty (Disclosure Scotland), and CYCJ. It will also offer insight from those with lived experience of the disclosure system, and its implications.
