Youth work practice and relationships enable young people to recognise and realise their rights in their fullest sense.
Youth work is human rights work. Our rights-based approach spans young people’s lives from non-discrimination, to meaningful participation, health, education, and play. In doing so, youth work has an integral role in realising national ambitions to make Scotland the best place to grow up.
The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child wraps around the Youth Work Outcomes and Skills Framework, cementing youth work as a rights-respecting and rights-promoting practice.
We believe young people have a right to access youth work. It shouldn’t be a postcode lottery whether you are able to access quality youth work. Incorporation of UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into Scots law gives an opportunity to rectify this.
