Benefit Basics in Scotland

You will learn the basics of social security and be able to identify which benefits are available to the people you work with. You will understand the key life events that can have an impact on benefit entitlement and recognise when someone should make a new claim or report a change in circumstances.

The course covers:

• The UK and Scottish social security systems.
• Universal credit basics.
• Disability and carers’ benefits .
• Scottish Welfare Fund’s crisis grants and community care grants.
• Knowing who can help.

This course is aimed at advisers and support workers with no knowledge of benefits.
