JERRY – Jamming Expression and Rhythm for Rainbow Youth

For LGBTQ+ young people, being heard isn’t always a given. JERRY makes sure it is.

Delivered by LGBT Youth Scotland in partnership with Music Broth, the programme supports over 60 young people to write music, learn instruments and perform in safe, inclusive spaces. Across six-week workshop blocks led by industry professionals, young people develop skills in songwriting, production and performance, with real outcomes – live gigs, recorded tracks and an upcoming EP.

For many, it’s the first time they’ve felt confident sharing their voice. One young person said: “Performing my own songs gave me confidence I never thought possible.”

Cutting Edge Youth Theatre

For many of the young people here, this is the only place they can truly take the stage.

Cutting Edge Theatre works with learning-disabled young people aged 12–18, delivering weekly sessions that adapt theatre to each individual – from non-verbal communication to supported performance. With a growing waiting list, demand continues to grow.

Young people lead warm-ups, shape performances and build confidence at their own pace. The impact is tangible. Families report improved communication, independence and friendships, while one young person progressed from being non-verbal to joining a national training programme.

As one parent put it: “It’s his favourite day of the week – and it’s changed his confidence completely.”

Glasgow Girls Club

Look around Glasgow and you’ll see their work, on walls, on screens, and in the voices of young women shaping the city.

Through youth-led programmes spanning music, film, murals and public campaigns, Glasgow Girls Club supports young women to create bold work that challenges inequality and strengthens their voices.

Creative outputs, including the internationally recognised Where We Stop film, have reached millions of people, while participants gain real experience in performance, production and design.

Young women progress into leadership roles, mentoring others and shaping future projects. Just as importantly, they leave with the confidence to take up space – creatively, publicly and unapologetically.
