National Youth Work Awards 2026
From youth participants to leading change in their own community, Aimee Mason and Jessica Parker represent what youth work makes possible.
Now leading youth participation across Garnock Valley, they have strengthened youth voice through forums and local decision-making, ensuring young people influence plans like Our Garnock Valley Place Plan.
They also helped create the “New to You” initiative, supporting families during the cost-of-living crisis and now adopted across local schools.
Young people describe them as trusted, approachable and genuine. Their journey — from participants to leaders – continues to inspire others to step forward, get involved and believe in their ability to shape their community.
Inside HMYOI Polmont, where opportunity can feel limited, Iain Corbett is helping young men see a different future.
Through his work with the Children and Young People’s Centre for Justice, he has led programmes including Activate and participatory budgeting, where young people directed £75,000 into community projects themselves.
His approach combines creativity and trust – from large-scale murals to honest conversations about mental health and identity – creating space for young men to reflect, express themselves and lead.
Colleagues say his impact is transformative. For many young men, Iain’s work has given them something they had not experienced before: belief in their potential and hope for what comes next.
For some young people in Moray, Alison Smith is the reason they come to school at all.
Working across Milne’s High School and the wider community, she supports young people who are disengaged from education to rebuild confidence and reconnect with learning.
Her work with a group of S4 pupils led to all returning to some level of education, progressing into college or employability pathways. By creating safe spaces, building trust and bringing in partners, she helps young people take steps that once felt out of reach.
Young people say her impact is lasting. One shared that Alison helped them find the confidence to speak up – something they had never done before.
