Join this open session to explore how proposed social media restrictions will impact on digital youth work.

This is an important moment as we consider the significance of proposed restrictions on young people’s access to social media and how that impacts on the digital youth work.

This event will be short inputs followed by open discussion.

Agenda:

5Rights Foundation: Safer By Design

We are delighted to host an input from the 5Rights Foundation which will help us explore how a social media ban cannot be the end of the story: products need to be safe before children use them, and existing legislation and guidance must be properly enforced. Follow the links to find out more about their current work.

5Rights was founded as a campaign in 2012, when film-maker Baroness Beeban Kidron investigated the impact of technology on children. The 5Rights Framework, developed with children, served as a manifesto for radical change – a mission taken up by the 5Rights Foundation from its establishment in 2018.

What Kind of Brain? A Card Game for Talking AI

Luci Holland from Tinderbox Collective has been designing a card game that makes playful space for people to talk about the complexities and ethics around engaging with AI. The game is still in development, and Luci will share the thinking behind it and how it works before inviting the room to give feedback and ask questions.

Kamelion: A Digital Youth Club Platform

Vivian Tanaka will join to share about her work developing Kamelion as a route to reach more young people than she ever could 1:1 as a

wellbeing practitioner and gather real evidence on what help they need today to feel good. She says, “We co-created Kamelion with young people to hear their voices and meet them where they are today: online. It’s a third space between home and school that helps them build skills for the future, invest in their wellbeing, and work towards the life they want. At the same, we create a secure network of early support from health and education providers that’s kinder, cheaper and more effective than waiting for a crisis.
