How does growing up online really feel? What works — and what needs to change? Join the chat at an Edinburgh youth hack event, where young people (aged 13-15) will come together to share experiences of the online world and explore the challenges and opportunities of growing up digital.
The #iWill Movement and Volunteering Matters have been commissioned by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to consult with young people across the UK about the Proposed Social Media Ban for under 16’s.
To support this consultation exercise, they will be delivering a youth-led ‘Hackathon’ event to understand the perspectives, experiences and views of young people which will feed into the overall findings and inform Government policy. This session will frame the opportunity for young people to share ‘what good looks like’ for them, with regards to growing up in the online world.
If this is something you would be interested in being part of, they’re looking for 5-10 young people to take part from your youth club. They would need to be accompanied by a staff member who would also attend the event, however this staff member does not have to support the running of the event itself. The event will be run by #iWill/Volunteering Matters staff.
Register your young people attending.
There are also drafts of a consent form which can be shared to gain permission from parents/guardians.
