Join Together to develop your understanding of how to implement the five principles of a Children’s Human Rights Approach in your work and organisation with a detailed focus on each principle. The UNCRC (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 brought important children’s rights protections into law in Scotland, and taking a Children’s Human Rights Approach is crucial to ensure that children’s rights are implemented in practice. 

The workshops aim to equip attendees with:  

• How they can consider children’s rights in their work.

• Deeper knowledge of the one of five principles of a Children’s Human Rights Approach. 

• An understanding of the links with the other four principles.

• Ideas for how to implement the principle in their working practice.

• Resources for further study.

Whether you’re new to this area or looking to deepen your practice, the session will draw on real-life examples and learning outcomes from the Children’s Rights Skills and Knowledge Framework to support your next steps.  

It will be helpful for attendees to have attended Taking a Children’s Human Rights Approach in Practice session before attending a dedicated principle session. However, all attendees will receive a participants pack to get familiar with materials and key concepts in advance.  

Embedding  

This session focuses on putting children’s rights at the core of decision making, working practice, planning, reporting, and the delivery of services. 

Some of the topics explored will be how to:  

• Understand the links between the UNCRC and other polices and frameworks.

• Develop training to support children’s rights skills and knowledge. 

• Promote children’s rights.

• Use Child Rights Impact Assessments and Evaluations.

• Collect and monitor information on babies, children and young people to support their rights.

• Use child rights budgeting.
