This Trust develops sustainable, high quality programmes that include everyone who wants to learn. They provide cash grants usually on a match-funded basis, and work closely with schools, communities and councils to design successful programmes that attract high numbers of pupils and that give them enriching experiences.
The SSPDT aim to advance the arts, heritage, culture and community development by encouraging young people in Scotland to take up the chanter, pipes and drums; and by supporting the development of school pipe bands. In doing so, they support young people to broaden their education, in particular their musical and social skills.
They support piping, drumming and pipe bands in state schools. The Trust funds tuition and related costs on a matched basis, and offers guidance. The Trust is keen to work with voluntary organisations, schools, councils and co-funders to widen access to piping and drumming in schools. Grants can be multi-year.
