The Baily Thomas Charitable Fund

They will fund:

• Capital building/renovation/refurbishment works for residential, nursing and respite care, and schools.
• Employment schemes including woodwork, crafts, printing and horticulture.
• Play schemes and play therapy schemes.
• Day and social activities centres including building costs and running costs.
• Support for families, including respite schemes.
• Independent living schemes.
• Support in the community schemes.
• Snoezelen rooms.

Who is Eligible

Charities and organisations who aim to aid the research into learning disability and to aid the care and relief of those affected by learning disability. The Baily Thomas Charitable Fund consider under learning disability the conditions generally referred to as severe learning difficulties, together with autism. In this area, they consider projects concerning children or adults. Please note that they do not give grants for research into or care of those with mental illness, dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, nor ADHD, if they do not also have learning disabilities (intellectual disabilities).

Meetings and Deadlines

If you are seeking funding up to a maximum of £5,000, this will be considered by the Medical Trustees outside of the usual Trustees meetings.  The application process is the same, but the application deadlines do not apply.

Research grants (seeking funding in excess of £5,000) are tabled at the meetings held in June and November each year. The timetable for each meeting is as follows:

• June – one page outlines must be submitted by 1st December with full proposals to be received by 1st February.
• November – one page outlines must be submitted by 1st May with full proposals to be received by 1st July.

Please note, late submissions are not permitted and your application will be processed in accordance with the above timetable.
