Growing Up Connected: Youth Work and Young People in a Digital Scotland

A new publication from YouthLink Scotland brings together voices from across the sector to explore how youth work is making a difference to young people’s online lives.

In Growing Up Connected, YouthLink Scotland brings together voices from across the youth work sector to explore how young people and practitioners are responding to life online. Featuring inspiring examples from communities across Scotland, the magazine highlights young people leading conversations on AI, creating resources on online safety, tackling misinformation, preventing violence and shaping digital wellbeing initiatives.

The publication shows how digital youth work is not so much about the technology. It is about helping young people develop the confidence, critical thinking, skills and support networks they need to thrive in a digital society. It also sets out a vision for Scotland where digital wellbeing, inclusion and participation are at the heart of public policy.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, we want to showcase the creativity, expertise and commitment of youth workers and young people who are helping shape Scotland’s digital future together.

At a moment when online safety is being recognised as a key focus across our nation, we show how youth work can enable young people to thrive.

From artificial intelligence and misinformation to online safety, digital inclusion and wellbeing, the questions facing young people today are changing rapidly. Yet one thing remains constant: the importance of trusted relationships and supportive adults.
