Who is this document for?
- This guidance applies to local authorities’ provision of relationships, sexual health and parenthood (RSHP) education in the schools and settings they manage.
- This guidance refers to teachers and practitioners but may also be relevant to youth workers, residential care staff, nurses including school nurses, health improvement staff, third sector agencies and any other professionals delivering RSHP education to children and young people.
- Furthermore, the principles set out in this guidance can be equally relevant for the provision of education for children and young people looked after by local authorities in residential settings or in youth clubs or groups which are funded, in whole or in part, by local authorities, the Scottish Government or other public agencies.
The guidance been updated in response to the evolving Public Health landscape for children and young people. There have been concerning changes about many aspects of young people’s experiences and behaviours requiring concerted multi-agency responses.
