Do you support young people who are currently looking for work or have recently started a job? They could be eligible for Job Start Payment, a one-off payment of £331.95 (£531.10 if they have responsibility for a child) to help with the costs of starting a new job.
The payment is available to eligible young people aged 16 to 24 who have been out of work and receiving certain benefits for at least six months before receiving a job offer. Care leavers can apply for the payment between the ages of 16 and 25 – they need to be out of work and receiving a qualifying benefit on the day of the job offer.
Job Start Payment can help cover practical costs such as work clothes, travel, tools or childcare, and it does not need to be paid back. Applications can be made for up to six months after a job offer is received, meaning some young people may still be eligible even if they started their job earlier this year.
