The latest ONS Annual Population Survey (APS) data are for July 2023 to June 2024. The latest estimates for 16 to 24 year olds in Scotland show the unemployment rate had decreased slightly over the year, the employment rate had increased, and the economic inactivity rate had decreased.
In Scotland in July 2023 to June 2024:
- The estimated employment rate for 16 to 24 year olds was 56.4%.
- The estimated unemployment rate for 16 to 24 year olds was 10%.
- The estimated economic inactivity rate for 16 to 24 year olds was 37.3%.
Compared with the previous year:
- The employment rate for 16 to 24 year olds increased by 0.6 percentage points.
- The unemployment rate for 16 to 24 year olds decreased by 0.1 percentage points.
- The inactivity rate for 16 to 24 year olds decreased by 0.7 percentage points.
Compared with the UK as a whole:
- The employment rate for 16 to 24 year olds in Scotland was higher (56.4% compared to 52.6%).
- The unemployment rate for 16 to 24 year olds in Scotland was lower (10.0% compared to 11.0%).
- The inactivity rate for 16 to 24 year olds in Scotland was lower (37.3% compared to 40.9%).
Comparing men and women aged 16 to 24 years in Scotland:
- The estimated employment rate for men was lower than women (55.7% compared to 57.2%).
- The estimated unemployment rate for men was higher than women (11.9% compared to 8.1%).
- The estimated economic inactivity rate for men was lower than women (36.8% compared to 37.8%).
