Children & Young People Commissioner Scotland

The group of Young Advisors needs new members – and it’s an exciting role that makes a big difference to children’s rights in Scotland.

The group – human rights defenders aged between 12 and 17 from all over Scotland – plays a vital part in shaping Children and Young People’s Commissioner Nicola Killean’s work.

What do Young Advisors do?

They have lots of fun while pushing for change in children’s rights in Scotland!

They meet to share their opinions, tell the Commissioner about other children’s experiences, and influence the office’s work. In the past year, they have been supported to:

How much time do you have to give?

The Young Advisors meet once a month, either online or in-person, and there will be other meetings if you are working on a particular project. Young people can choose which areas they would like to be involved in. There is never any pressure on the young person to attend.

Will it cost any money?

No. Expenses are paid to take part, for example for trips and travel from where young people live – no matter where in Scotland.

Who can apply and how do I apply?

Young people must be aged between 12 and 16 to apply, and they must live in Scotland. It’s important that the Commissioner works with children from all over the country, with different views, backgrounds, and experiences.

There’s lots of support on offer to suit individual needs. Young people don’t need to have any experience in an organised group – in fact, they want to especially include those who haven’t done anything like this before.

Apply online by Sunday 1st February.
