The focus of this survey is to assess the state of civic space of young people in Europe. The problem of shrinking civic space for young people is not new, since, increasingly hostile conditions for civil, political and social engagement of young people across the globe have presented barriers for young and youth organisations, youth groups and movements to be an agent of social change. The survey is open until 15th December.
The EU-CoE Youth Partnership is conducting research on young people engaging in democracy within the context of shrinking civic space and increasing restrictions on the activities of civil society organisations, notably those led by young people.
The study will build on the Youth Partnership’s existing knowledge and share new research on the topic of youth political participation, including shrinking space for civil society, gender, digitalisation, new forms of participation, participation in climate movements, EU Youth Dialogue, and impact of Covid-19 on youth spaces. The study includes qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis on trends and priorities of young people’s participation in the context of shrinking space and growing populism, and it will present recommendations for policy making and youth work practice.
They are inviting all youth organisations and informal groups of young people in the Council of Europe’s member states to complete the survey.
