This week marks ten years since the launch of Keep the Heid, SCCR’s psychoeducational resource designed to help people understand anger, conflict responses and what happens in the brain when we ‘flip our lid’. If you haven’t explored ‘Keep the Heid’ recently – or shared it with someone who might benefit – the tenth anniversary is a good time!
The resource draws on a circus theme, using characters such as the Human Cannonball and the Acrobat to make complex neuroscience accessible and engaging. Why the circus? Well, relationships can be balancing acts – and no one wants to fall of the tightrope and look like a clown. Nor do we want to bend ourselves so far out of shape to maintain a relationship we could be a contortionist.
Developed to support young people, families and practitioners, Keep the Heid explores the relationship between the ‘Thinking Brain’ and the ‘Emotional Brain”, helping users reflect on triggers, reactions and healthier ways to remain calm in moments of tension.
A decade on, the Keep the Heid quiz remains one of the most popular pages on the SCCR website, continuing to spark conversations and deepen understanding of how we manage anger and maintain connection during conflict.
If you haven’t explored Keep the Heid recently – or shared it with someone who might benefit – the tenth anniversary is a good moment.
