World Community Development Conference - Call for Abstracts

Hosted by the University of Glasgow, this unique global event brings together all concerned with community development, its challenges and contributions. Abstracts for WCDC 2026 are welcomed from practitioners, activists, educators, researchers, students, community leaders, policy makers, unwaged workers, and funders, to explore how the discipline and practice of community development can respond to the challenges of a chaotic world, drive meaningful change, and foster collective action. The deadline for abstracts is 1st December. 

The International Association for Community Development (IACD) World Community Development Conference (WCDC) hosted by the University of Glasgow, is a unique global event bringing together all concerned with Community Development, its challenges and contributions.

Abstracts for WCDC 2026 are welcomed from all involved in Community Development -including practitioners, activists, educators, researchers, students, community leaders, policy makers, unwaged workers, and funders, to explore how the discipline and practice of community development can respond to the challenges of a chaotic world, drive meaningful change, and foster collective action.

We are living through a time of profound global disruption. Political instability, social fragmentation, economic inequality, and environmental crises are reshaping the world in real time. A context in which the role of community development is more vital than ever.

The conference will be a space for connection, critical reflection, creative exchange, and global solidarity. It will be rooted in the values of justice, participation, community empowerment and human rights and underpinned by Community Development’s emphasis on collective initiatives for collective outcomes.

Submission deadline:  5pm on Monday 1st December.
