A group of young co-researchers aiming to understand how young people can be engaged in ocean decision-making need your help with their survey. The survey will ask questions around connection to and knowledge of the ocean, awareness of how decisions are made about the ocean, interest in being involved in decisions made about the ocean and what would help young people get involved.
The Youth Voices for the Ocean project are a group of passionate young co-researchers aged 18-35, dedicated to ensuring that the voices of young people are heard in the future of our ocean. Through collaboration and research across Scotland and South Africa, they’re identifying ways to better integrate young people into ocean decision-making processes. Their goal is to empower the next generation to shape the policies, actions, and solutions that will protect and sustain our oceans for years to come.
To do this, they first need to understand how distance from the ocean and rurality influence young people’s knowledge of the ocean, as well as their awareness of and interest in having a say in decisions made about the ocean. They’re inviting young people aged 18-35 to take part in the Youth Voices for the Ocean survey.
You do not need to have knowledge of the ocean or ocean decision-making to take part in the survey. The survey will ask questions around your connection to and knowledge of the ocean, awareness of how decisions are made about the ocean, interest in being involved in decisions made about the ocean and what would help you get involved. There will also be demographic questions focused on where you live, your age group, gender and current employment/education status.
