Workforce development and training are woven into all of our work at YouthLink Scotland.

Our national programmes and practice development projects build skills and confidence within the sector to meet the emerging needs of young people and our events, networks and online presence, including our newly launched e-learning hub, are spaces in which fantastic professional learning happens.

It’s been another successful year of training delivery within YouthLink Scotland, delivering 3,851 learning places on key themes that matter to the sector
and young people.

The youth work sector has a workforce of 53,500, including 45,000 volunteers. This wonderful workforce engages with over 500,000 young people accessing youth work across Scotland. The priority themes we focus on support youth workers to work towards the Youth Work Outcomes and Skills alongside young people and to meet their emerging needs.

All our professional learning is designed to support youth workers to develop their practice in line with our professional frameworks: The National Occupational Standards for Youth Work and the CLD Competent Practitioner Framework. And we’re proud to hold the CLD Standards Council Standards Mark in recognition of the quality.

This year we collaborated with the sector to refresh the National Youth Work Induction Checklist and launched an Introduction to Youth Work e-learning course, making the induction accessible to volunteers and staff across the country.

As we look back on a busy and responsive year, we delivered 137 sessions and inputs, centering key issues for young people and youth work. The highest attended YouthLink Scotland events were:

Looking towards next year, we are as committed as ever in supporting and developing the sector to deliver for young people, with creative and exciting plans afoot.
