Co-created resources will enable young people to explore AI

The Include Plus Network have published the final report of the Our Futures and AI Project.

The new report charts the journey of the project, reflecting on the value for those taking part and the relevance of the new resources.

The Our Futures and AI Toolkit was released earlier in 2026, providing resources for the youth work sector. The toolkit is proving popular as a starting place for exploring a range of GenAI-related issues in a youth work setting.

The project brought together two youth groups to explore the topic and carry out some youth-led research into Artificial Intelligence. Their input was invaluable in shaping the new materials.

Cromar Future Group is a coding club, enabling young people to develop technology skills that will be relevant for their future careers. One of the things they discovered is how AI is changing opportunities around coding. Les Ellis, Youth Worker at the Cromar Future Group said, “This was particularly valuable for us as a coding club. It made us re-evaluate everything that we are doing. It has challenged our whole model. I don’t think we would have addressed this otherwise – it would have taken us two years to make the switch.”

The Citadel has continued to focus on AI following the project, with a second cohort of young people taking part in an AI programme, based on the resources they helped to develop. Ryan McKay, Youth Worker at The Citadel said: “I work with lots of different groups of young people and I will be very interested to see how those different groups respond to the activities that we developed. I was also fascinated that the group of boys that volunteered to be part of this project identified body image as a key theme that they wanted to explore.”

YouthLink Scotland led the Our Futures and AI project, with input from the two youth groups, Digital Skills Education, Sopra Steria and the Scottish AI Alliance. The work was funded by the Include Plus Network, as part of their digital inclusion research.
