CashBack for Communities Supports Thousands of Young People
A programme funded from the seized assets of criminals delivered £6.2 million funding to support over 15,000 young people during 2024-25.  The money has been used by Cashback for Communities to support 29 organisations delivering projects that divert young people away from anti-social behaviour and crime.

Plain packaging of vape pods reduces young people’s interest in trying them, but does not reduce interest among adults, according to a new study led by UCL and King’s College London researchers.

2025 Inequality Landscape
Overall, this report by the Health Foundation, suggests there have been modest gains in some living-standards, including some hopeful signs of reductions in child poverty, but this is set against persistent, and in places deepening, structural inequalities that continue to drive poor health. Focusing on average outcomes paints a picture of men in Scotland doing relatively well but this obscures a subset of young adult men facing multiple socio-economic challenges who are at high risk of early, preventable deaths.

A new report, published by the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE) in partnership with the Mental Health Foundation, warns that childhood health inequalities will persist without a decisive shift from short-term, reactive measures to long-term, preventative approaches.

One in Three Young People Surveyed Expect to Need Mental Health Support in Coming Year
The majority (64%) of young adults in Britain say they have experienced mental health difficulties, with a third (32%) expecting to need support in the coming year, according to polling commissioned from YouGov by UCL’s Grand Challenge of Mental Health & Wellbeing.

Scottish Household Survey 2024: Volunteer Participation Rate Increases to 25%
After formal volunteer participation dropped to its lowest recorded level of 18% in 2023, the latest Scottish Household Survey results for 2024 show positive changes, with 25% of adults in Scotland volunteering with a group, club or organisation in 2024. This means the number of volunteers in Scotland increased by 331,000 between 2023 and 2024.

Young People Take Lead on AI Research
Young people from two Scottish youth groups are stepping up to explore how AI is affecting them and their peers. The project is led by YouthLink Scotland with funding from the Include Plus Network.  Young people are choosing which topics to explore and will be offered support to help them carry out the youth-led research in an ethical way.
