Poverty Among Young Adult Men in Scotland
Young men in Scotland are facing similar levels of poverty as children, according to a new report by the Scottish Health Equity Research Unit. After housing costs, more than one in five (22%) Scottish men aged 18 to 44 were living in poverty in 2021-24 compared to 23% of children, an increase from 19% pre-pandemic.

Study Sheds Light on Social Media and Mental Health
Research by The University of Edinburgh following more than 3000 young people has found that low to average social media use at ages 11 and 14 did not strongly predict mental ill health three years later, including depression and anxiety, self-harm and suicide attempts.

Young People Launch Online Safety Educational Tools
NSPCC Scotland has been working with an amazing group of young people from across Scotland, in partnership with the Scottish Youth Parliament, on a project that aims to help make the online world safer for children. The group of Digital Safety Ambassadors have co-designed a set of educational tools and resources to raise awareness of the risks young people face online, and to support influencing opportunities with decision-makers.

The Digital Educator Award Scotland
A new award recognising educators for innovation in the use of digital technology has been launched in Scotland. The scheme aims to highlight the outstanding work of educators who champion digital skills in classrooms and beyond. The awards are free to enter, and open to those working in all areas of compulsory, vocational and post-compulsory education and training.

Improved Support for Kinship Carers
Plans have been unveiled to strengthen the legal rights for eligible kinship carers and make it simpler and clearer to access support for them and children they care for. The move, if passed by MSPs, would make it easier for families to access financial, practical and advocacy support, by ensuring needs are considered in the round and linked to existing support routes.

Cost is the Biggest Barrier to Young People Taking Part in Hobbies
A Young Scot survey of young people in Scotland has found that while almost all recognise the benefits of hobbies, nearly half say cost is the main reason preventing them from taking part. The survey shows that hobbies already play an important role in many young people’s lives, with 75% of the 688 respondents reporting two or more hobbies and just 5% saying they have none.
