Socioeconomic Disadvantage on Child Mental Health
This study provides one of the most comprehensive examinations to date of how different types of mental health difficulties – internalising (e.g. anxiety, sadness) and externalising (e.g. impulsivity, defiance) – manifest across childhood and adolescence, and how these patterns are shaped by early life socioeconomic disadvantage.

Young Workers Won’t Wait
Young people are in spiralling debt after years of “wage discrimination” according to a new report from Scotland’s largest trade union body. The STUC report: ‘Young Workers Won’t Wait’ reveals how, because of low rates for young people,  66% of respondents said they were in debt with debt levels in the region of £3,000 – £10,000, whilst only 46% said they could always afford the basics in life, such as food, transport and bills.

This toolkit by Play Scotland is designed to help local authorities assess local play spaces and produce Play Sufficiency reports. Youth Work Data Course
As the world becomes increasingly digitised, we’ve witnessed exponential growth in data with the total amount of global data estimated to double every two years. We know data is important, but do we know how to use it for good in the world of youth work? This course is a response to the need for the youth work sector to recognise the ever-increasing importance of data in making decisions in the modern world and to help youth workers and managers develop skills in this area that will drive forward success for the sector in general and young people in particular. Enrolment is now open for the course starting on 23rd September - the course needs to be completed by 31st January 2026.

New CPD Accredited E-Learning Course Empowers Teachers, Youth Workers & Practitioners to Tackle Knife Crime
No Knives Better Lives (NKBL) has unveiled a new, free and fully accredited e-learning course aimed at teachers, youth workers, police, and violence-prevention professionals across Scotland: Better Lives: Understanding Violence Prevention and Knife Carrying.

Scotland's Youth Arts Open Fund launches a third round of national funding
A total of £740k will be made available to support the delivery of free community-based arts activities for children and young people living in Scotland thanks to a funding partnership between YouthLink Scotland, Creative Scotland and Scottish Government.

Childline Joins Forces with Police Scotland to Support Young People in Custody
Children in police custody in Glasgow are being offered confidential support from Childline as part of a new initiative. The project, being run by the NSPCC, the children’s charity which delivers Childline, and Police Scotland, provides children in custody with information about the support service and offers them the chance to talk confidentially to a counsellor.
